Daisy, our gorgeous English Pointer, has always been a fantastic pheasant hunting dog. She's been bird crazy since we got her at 3 months old! We have always known she was good, so we wanted to see just how good.
Daisy was inspected by a breed inspector. The inspector found her to be pure bred, (as we knew), but the inspection now makes her a "papered purebred". So, she has been registered with The Upland Classics and The American Kennel Club, both nationally recognized clubs. But, as Chris always says about horses, "You can't ride the papers." So, into the feild trial she went!
Now, you have to keep in mind this is her very first time in a field trial, which is very different from wild bird hunting, as Daisy and Chris usually do. We weren't sure how she was going to score. Well guess what?!?!? SHE CAME IN FIRST PLACE!!!!
Her first place standing has been recorded on the national board with The Upland Classics.
She had 20 minutes to point and flush 3 birds, with a bunch of little itty bitty rules all in between. All the "rules" give us points. She flushed her first three birds in 6min 48 seconds. Her fourth bird was flushed just under 8 minutes. She was the only dog to flush a 4 bird, which gave her extra points. Chris decided to finish his run in under 10 minutes. All together, Daisy (and Chris) got 242 points.
She will have one more amature run in May. Then in September she will be competing in the Open Class. She will compete once a month from September '08 until May '09. If we can teach her to be a better retriever, which at the moment, is her only downfall, it's believed she will be good enough to qualify for the national competitions. That would be soooo awesome!!

Wow, thats awesome! Congrats. Hey, my dog likes birds too. He goes nuts in the backyard with the birds in the trees, and tonight during our student FHE he caught a vole in the backyard. We're so proud of him:) Thats so great Daisy won first place! way to go.
